Bo & Luca Campaign

November 1, 2017 Kat McAndrew

One of my film obsessions is the 1998 Alfonso Cuaron directed Great Expectations. I was so in love with Paradiso Perduto, the house of Miss Dinsmoor, in it's state of elegant disrepair but I never thought I'd see a real life version of it.

The location of the most recent campaign I worked on for the gorgeous bridal label Bo & Luca was reminiscent of Paradiso Perduto and I loved everything about the epically beautiful Palomar building in Sydney. Take a look at some of the campaign images and outtakes below

Homebird for Factice Magazine

June 10, 2017 Kat McAndrew

I've said it before and I'll probably say it in many more posts in the future but instagram is a strange and wondrous beast; Social media has a great way of uniting people who under other circumstances would never have the opportunity to meet or work together.

This glorious shoot for Factice magazine is the result of me stumbling across the gorgeous photography work of Christina Kapl and commenting on her posts, as it happened Christina was about to make a trip to Australia from her home in Munich and reached out to me to set up this shoot with the heavenly Lily Gribble of IMG Models.

Sometimes shoots just work out amazingly well and we had one of the most fun times I've ever had shooting in and around the caravan park Christina was staying in, plus I got to meet and work with the sensational stylist Josie O'Hanlon who I've since worked with again and absolutely adore.

Modesto Blog x Gail Sorronda

April 27, 2017 Kat McAndrew

The internet is awesome.

Yeah, it can put a lot of additional stress on our shoulders but Facebook and Instagram have led me to some super cool people who I adore working with.

Enter Modesto blog. Almost a year ago now Ali reached out to me via Instagram to do a styled shoot for her blog and we've worked together and collaborated on many projects since. Ali contacted me with this idea that she'd been working on with photographer Rachael Baskerville  ( coincidentally, I also first met Rachael on a shoot for a magazine that posted on Insta looking for a makeup artist) and of course I was gonna jump at the chance to work with these rad ladies again.

So if you google the William Jolly Bridge which connects South Brisbane to Roma Street across the Brisbane river it'll give you an idea of how chock a block it gets during peak hour and due to some unforeseen circumstances ( the fact that none of us realised there was a Broncos game on that day) it took waaaaaayyy longer than the normal 15 minute drive for us to get from Ali's place to South Bris, and by way longer I mean it took us nearly 45 min. Usually a shoot will take a couple of hours and in that time you'll get in about 4-6 outfits but because of the unexpected delay we were losing that gorgeous Golden Hour light fast and cramed 4 outfits into a 20 min shoot.

The light was great but I probs wouldn't recommend rushing a shoot like that ever... especially not during peak hour. Or on a game day.

It is something to behold when a label can generate such a large following in a city as small as Brisbane. If you aren't by now familiar with Brisbane designer Benjamin Ringuet where have you been? His designs are simply stunning and as evidenced on the night have a very devoted client base.

A few weeks ago I was involved in the Ringuet VIP Night held at Brickworks Design Studio in the Valley when I provided makeup for the models on the night. The Brief was a beautiful red lip a simple eye look with a pop of shimmer in the inner corner and then some gorgeous glowing skin.

I opted for a semi matte red on the lips so as the models didn't appear like they'd just been bobbing for apples and used a liquid highlight in beigey tones and Josie Maran Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil in Everlasting Honey for just a hint of colour in the cheeks.

In opting not to use much in the way of powder products the models wound up with healthy glowing and hydrated looking skin which looked just lovely and wore all night (I believe the girls even hit the town after the event) :-)
